What the bag doesn’t tell you
No one approves your dog’s food before it’s sold.
FDA doesn’t review pet food before it goes on sale, and AAFCO doesn’t approve any. So problems are found after the food is already in people’s homes. That’s what a recall is.

You can’t see Salmonella in a bag of kibble. The lot code tells you, and checking it takes 2 minutes.

A 4-year-old was hospitalized. The company didn’t recall the food.
In 2024 a 4-year-old caught E. coli and developed HUS, a complication that can lead to kidney failure. FDA’s genetic testing matched the child’s E. coli to a raw dog food.
The child had no known contact with the food itself. Only with the family dog, which had started vomiting the day before.
The company didn’t recall it. So FDA posted its own warning to owners: do not feed.
